starts now. >> complete bay area news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> good morning, welcome to mornings on 2. i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. it's thursday may 16th . we begin with breaking news. trains are stopped on barth in oakland. -- bart in oakland. >> there was a person runningy e tracks. this has been happening for almost an hour. we have bart spokes woman on the phone and how this is affecting the system. >> good morning. the situation keeps changing , you are right. we had a male patron that jumped on to the roof of our platform and then jumped on to 980. back on to our tracks, on top of a train. last i was told he was back on the tracks. police are on the scene.

we've powered down the third rail as a safety precaution which means we do not have trains moving through mcarthur. if you can use the 19th street statement, that will be best. a major delays changing -- the situation is changing frequently. hopefully police can get this person into custody and move on with the morning commute. >> we are looking at a picture of a stopped train at lafayette. so the trains let's say in concord to lafayette, are they going to be stopped there? they cannot get through the tunnel? >> unless bart police feel it's safe to turn the power on and move a train through, that's their call. right now we're being told it's not a safe situation as long as someone's on the track. >> one last question, you said if riders can get themselves to west oak land, i assume west

we'll continue to follow throughout the morning. meanwhile 7:03 new this morning san jose police are investigating the discovery of a man's body. discovered just after 1:00 on blossom hill road. sources say a weapon has been found and they are searching for more. >> reporter: that's right. and i want to tell you in the last two minutes, the corner arrived on the scene. they have been taking their time all morning, these investigators gathering evidence. they focus investigation on the dumpster. that's where the body of an adult man is laying on the ground inside. police say they received a 911 call from someone who found an unconscious man who had been attacked lying on the ground. he was found in the parking lot near jack in the box and pay less shoe store.

he was declared dead on the scene. it appeared a machete was used in the attack. this man had a lot of injuries to his head. and i'm told by my source they did recover a weapon. they are searching the area all morning for any more evidence. they have been taking pictures. no suspect information has been given to us. back out here live, i want to show you the area that's roped off. you can see where the police officers are standing and there's a chase bank in the distance. that whole area up here is roped off. about five businesses, that jack in the box is 24 hours jack in the box. that one is sort of closed indefinitely. but it appears since the corner is here the crime scene investigators may be wrapping up. the corner is here to recover the body. we do not have any suspect information or description. nobody is in custody.

and freeway. >> it's crazy. i'm trying to look up the latest information. we have a major system shut down here at bart. the mcarthur station has been shut down. highway 24 nearby has been slowed up and stopped near the tunnel down to the 24 area because of the bart service. there was a man reported running on the tracks. and also jumping on the train. not sure how this happened. police got word of it and now they are trying to get this man off the tracks. been seen running on the freeway. i want to go to the emeriville camera. you can see the bart system has been stopped. that train has been there for the last 40 minutes. you heard the spokes woman tell us the trains are not moving because they've turned the third rail off. this is because they fear for the man's safety running on the tracks. they had to stop the

trains by turning off the third rail. one of the things i do want to mention is bart is running into san francisco from west oakland. i have a feeling this is going to put more pressure on the roads. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza. we have a 30 minute plus delay getting into san francisco. the back up has an affected and slow before mechanicalarthur maze. southbound 101 in san francisco, there's an injury crash near caesar chavez. let's go to steve. >> thank you. cold front actually has arrived and a lot of reports coming in sprinkles or light rain. couple reports saying we built this city in san francisco as reporting some rain. looks like a little low. that's going to enhance . the rain will pick up once that begins on shore. we've had rain reports all the way to san jose.

good morning. bart service has been stopped because of a man running around on the trains, and on the freeway and track nearby. this is a picture of the trains westbound and eastbound 24 has been affected. that train we're seeing now hasn't moved for the last hour or so. this is a look at highway 24. the train into the bart station has been there for the last 30 minutes. people are waiting for service to resume. one of our employees driving ont of the man on the top of the

foreign workers may stall an immigration reform bill. the senate judiciary committee may started to. ads from a lobbying group could threaten the bipartisan deal on immigration. those ads angered many democrats and environmentalists. it praised republican law makers who support the key stone pipeline. the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff is responding to the army sex scandal at fort hood texas. a soldier in charge of preventing sexual assault is accused of forcing one subordinate into prostitution and sexually assaulting two others. joint chief's chairman says this sex scandal and others may be connected to the strings of war. he's also concerned this growing problem may be giving many women second thoughts about joining the military. today is the deadline for members of the san francisco pride electoral college to vote

again for the 2013 community grand marshal. the pride board recently rejected u.s. army private bradley manning as the grand marshal. some say he should be reinstated. facebook page says manning will not be named grand marshal and the discussion is over. manning is in military custody after leaking classified government documents. >> 7:19. efforts to fight a fire are expected to get more intense today as strong winds fuel the flames. the brushfire has burned 3,000 acres and is just 10% contained. firefighters say it spread into ventura county and 600 firefighters have been called in. a nearby high school, state park and campsites have all been evacuated. so far, no word on what sparked the fire. and no one injured. >> the sheriff's office now scaling back the man hunt for a fugitive suspected of killingenn

around on the trains on the track and on the freeway nearby in oakland on highway 24 near the macarthur/bart station. the trains are moving again on the bart system. you can see this picture here. the trains are moving in and out of the station. but about 20 minutes ago a man was arrested. this is a picture that we saw of police talking to this man on top of the bart train right near the macarthur station. this man had been running around for about an hour on the freeway, at the station jumping on trains. took a while for them to get this man into custody. now the bart system is delayed. trains are running again. stay with ktvu. more coming up. let's go back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. one man is now in custody following a triple stabbing in san jose. a grandmother and her baby grandson were killed in that attack. took plautside

understand you just spoke to neighbors. >> reporter: yes, that's right. they were telling me sheriff's deputies were out here before and taken the son into custody for evaluation for a mental evaluation. they said he would ramble on about ufos. you can see two car seats in front of this house. a sad reminder of the one year old boy who died and the 3 year old girl fighting for her life. authorities have wrapped up investigation here. the bodies have been removed from the house. after a 6 hour man hunt last night, marshals detained ruben ramirez. he was located just after 9:00. and authorities are not calling him a suspect. they are referring to him as a person of interest. the 911 call coming in at 3:30 yesterday afternoon from a

family member who arrived home to find the three stabbing victims. ramirez's mother and one year old grandson were found dead at the scene. neighbors said ramirez does suffer. >> we're interviewing him getting a statement hoping to piece together what happened. >> reporter: now, the 3 year old girl was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries and we don't know her condition, we understand she has been stabilized. we will learn today whether ramirez will be charged. live from near san jose, ktvu channel 2 news. >> 7:33. a gruesome discovery at a holiday inn. found a woman's body in a room on monterey road yesterday afternoon. they say there were obvious signs of a struggle but not released information about

the circumstaneathceof >> a video of police officers in sonoma bursting into a house and using a taser has gone viral. there's controversy over force. >> kick my door down. >> a man living in a house took this video as police burst into his house and used a taser to stun a woman inside. the video was taken last week while police were responding to reports of domestic disturbance. a homeowner says he refused to open the door because the police officers refused to say why they were there. the police have made no public comment. this is an on going investigation. police in pleasantton out there searching for two men accused of robbing a woman and trying to steal her woman. police say one of the men pushed the woman to the ground, took her purse, while the other man grabbed the baby's stroller.

the men ran away when the stroller tipped over. the mother and her baby were not hurt. the suspects are skrabed as african american men clean shaven between 18 and 25 years old tchlt black baseball caps, black hooded sweatshirts and black pants. >> happening now, rescue workers are searching for survivors after a series of relentless tornadoes. at least 6 people died. 7 are still missing. casey is in grand berry, texas. >> reporter: good morning to you. absolutely terrifying night here all across north texas. never know what exactly is going to happen when you have severe weather in the middle of the night. you obviously cannot see. although emergency sirens were sounding in a lot of these communities, you can't look out into the night sky and tellado .

and this particular system according to the national weather service spawned 10 different tornadoes across north texas last night. the radar lit up like a christmas tree for hours and hours. the community where we are is about 70 miles southwest of dallas for reference for your viewers in the bay area. so this is a pretty small community. and this was one of the areas hardest hit. in fact, the sheriff here holding a press conference earlier this morning saying 7 people in this community remain unaccounted for at this hour. search and rescue efforts are certainly underway as we speak. 6 died in this community. no other fatalities at this point reported with any of the other 9 tornadoes. all 6 of the fatalities in grand bury alone. and more than 100 homes damaged or destroyed.

back out here live, this area where we are is a media staging area. they have all of this cordoned off and sealed off. they did not want the media going through there while they are going through the rubble and still looking for survivors. really the damage when you look at it from up thwhole perimeter sealed off.ave this is as close as they would let us because they have live power lines they are trying to get taken care of. 20,000 people across north texas remain without power. absolutely terrifying. and interestingly, texas, oklahoma, this part of the country known for its strong storms and tornadoes. but this is the first time a tornado has been deadly, has claimed a life here in the state of texas since 2007. it's been relatively quiet up until this point. forecasters are predicting a very busy summer when it comes

to severe weather not just tornadoes, hurricanes as well. >> all right casey live for us at the scene. thank you. tomorrow marks one month since a fertilizer plant in west texas exploded killing 14 people. today we may learn what triggered that blast. investigators from the texas state fire marshal's office and the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives are expected to release their findings. last month's explosion killed 10 first responders and leveled homes. >> the man who is accused of kidnapping and killing sierra lamar is due to go before a judge today. expected in court for a plea hearing. 15-year-old sierra lamar disappeared while walking to a bus stop. her body has never been found. torres is

also with carjacking and attempted kidnapping in connection with attacks on three women in 2009. >> 7:38. want to check in with sal once again. taking a look at the east bay. traffic is just a mess at the macarthur maze. >> when bart has its troubles, they say i have to be at that meeting on time so i have to take the car. this is what happens. at the macarthur maze very slow traffic around the berkeley curve and it's slow at the macarthur maze to the toll plaza as we have our toll plaza shot. people are basically at a standstill at the toll plaza here. it is a little better than it was still at 35 to 40 minute delay. highway 24 is also slow coming out. and this is all because of police activity at the station where they had to take someone into custody. let's talk about the 8

freeway. interstate 880 from 238 down to fremont. very slow traffic on northbound 880. but interestingly enough, the san mateo and dunbart bridge isn't too bad. let's go to steve. >> what a difference. cloudy skies. light rain this morning. a lot of reports down towards blossom hill. san jose. campbell. pretty steady rain down there for 15 minutes. some no rain at all. also report from mountain view. that may have changed by now. a little enhancement taking place off shore. so light rain, drizzle reports from san francisco up to lake county over to vallejo. generally light rain or spifrngles. nothing too steady or heavy. system is

working its way through. a little low is forming. slow it down and pick up rain rates a little even though it will be light. anything over a tenth of an inch will be surprising. cloudy skies, light rain and still breezy. can't get rid of that. a lot of 50s on these temps. they've been there all morning long. westerly breeze in place or a southwest wind. everything is showing signs of being on shore or from this front direction. this is a very mild system. 57. a little cooler down toward s southern california. not a lot of cloud cover here. some of the rain over to richmond. generally it's been over towards the east bay. setting up you can see from san francisco right there. look at that. looks like a little enhancement taking place on shore from sunset district down to san francisco state and out towards the east bay. that could be that light steady rain.

stocks are mixed on wall street after the dow hit latest record high. wal-mart blames higher payroll taxes, bad weather and delayed refunds for a slump. fisco is up 12% after they beat eimates. e w down 12. the nasdaq up 3 and the s&p down 2. more americans filed for first time unemployment benefits last week. 360,000 people filed for initial job less benefits. and that's up 32,000 from the week before. it's also the highest level since march. and economists say it's a sign job recovery is still not on a smooth path. >> time is 7:45. in overnight news, an arsonist is on the run. pam cook is in the news room

with interesting information. >> investigators say this is one of a few similar fires in san mateo this week. they are trying to determine if the fires are connected. no one was injured but the car was completely destroyed. started in a trash bin and spread to the car about 2:30 this morning. it was quite a wake up call for people lifking nearby. firefighters say it could have been worse. >> our dog barked and woke us up. the dog knew before we did. >> not sure if somebody is on foot. took some evidence there and trying to get fingerprints. they've been -- this is a priority for them. >> reporter: took firefighters about 10 minutes to put out the flames. investigators still trying to figure out how it

started. again, investigators think it could be connected to other suspicious fires in san mateo this week. they are encouraging anyone in the area to watch out for suspicious activity. pam cook, ktvu channel 2 news. >> 7:46. real heart break this morning for the family, the friends and volunteers who were searching looking for a missing autistic girl. the body was found yesterday in a creek near the family's vacation home. everyone was holding out hope they would find the 9 year old girl still alive. >> i think it's been traumatic for the community. everyone can relate to what it would be like to lose a child or for days not know where your child is. >> investigators believe her death was an accident. they think she just wandered into the creek. local church leaders plan to hold a prayer vigil to

help the community heal. >> the community was eagerly awaiting news and they are shocked and saddened. >> her school in san francisco sunset elementary, they are also expected to hold a special tribute for her. one of her teachers sent a text saying mikaela touched the school deeply. through her, they've learned to enjoy the simple pleasures of life and wrote we love her and we'll always remember our bug. >> it is 7:48. another deadly industrial accident in southeast asia. at least two people died and 6 others are injured when the sealing of a small shoe factory collapsed in cambodia. steal beams holding up a concrete floor gave way. the accident comes three weeks after agar ment factory collapsed killing more than 1100 people. the star of the disney

a man jumping in and around trains. this morning. this picture taken by a ktvu staffer who was one of many drafbing by as this man was taken into custody about 7:10 this morning. lots of people saw this as they were driving by this incident. and this guy had been jumping on trains off trains on to the station, on to the trangs. they had to shut the third rail down because they were worried about the dangers of that. when they did that, that caused all the trains to back up. and that caused a traffic mess. let's show you some of the trains we saw just basically stopped on the tracks waiting for all of this to end. a lot of people trying to figure out what was going on when they went and passed through that. i talked to a man driving by. they stopped 15 to 20 minutes. on highway 24 they rolled on

was spotted in morning. tracking down new information since 4:30 this morning and says police are still searching for clues. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tori. and right now behind me you can see behind the crime tape is the corner and the corner van where they are pulling out a gurney to recover the body that's been there since about 1:20 this morning. we're in between jack in the box and payless shoe store. this whole area has been roped off and it is going to remain closed for this homicide investigation. police say somebody called 911 at 1:20 this morning after somebody found a man severely beaten up. he was unconscious laying on the ground in a dumpster area between the two stores i mentioned. police source told me this morning that it appears he was attacked with a machete and also mentioned he had a lot of injuries to his head.

homicide investigators were gathering evidence earlier this morning taking pictures. they had a large portion of the parking lot with five businesses roped off while they did their investigation. and back out here live, right now it was about five businesses blocked off. now it remains the jack in the box which i know you can't see. right next to me is payless shoe store. those are the only two businesses that are unable to have public access right now. the jack in the box is actually 24 hours. closed indefinitely but because the corner is here right now, after they recover the body, we're pretty sure they are going to take down the crime tape. this was never affecting traffic. we haven't received a phone call back from a spokes person. at this point we know there is no suspect in custody. they are gathering -- going to look overall the evidence. they were

month. the highest median price was in san francisco. and the lowest was solano county. update the most expensive home in the state. the house is in woodside and the owner wants to change the style and expand the home to 8,000 square feet. the home sold for $117.5 million last november. >> 8:09. we now know what may be causing those houses to hide on the hillside. a water line leak softened up the ground and caused the hillside to give way. two homes have been crushed and two others in limbo. first started noticing cracks in their homes in march. a sewage pipe ruptured a couple months before that and two other under ground leaks before then. along san francisco's embarkadero palm trees have become eye sores.

welcome back. time now is 8:23. police in fremont out there looking for a man who stabbed someone in another car with a screwdriver. investigators say this was road rage. the victim cut off the suspect in traffic tuesday evening. the suspect then followed the victim into a 76 gas station on warm springs boulevard and according to police the assailant stabbed the man in the chest. the 26-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries.

the boston marathon announced it will invite all of the runners who were not able to finish the race to run in next year's boston marathon. >> 8:39. the tea party is calling for further investigation into the growing irs scandal. >> this is extremely troubling because the power to tax is the power to destroy. >> as kyla campbell reported, led a news conference. tea party leaders describing how the irs tried to intimidate them. the acting commissioner is resigning after the irs admitted staff targeted conservative groups applying for federal tax exempt status. president obama called it a breech of public trust. house speaker john boehner says more needs to happen. there could be cuts to the food stamps program starting in october.

stocks are all higher this morning in trading. there is some mixed news among some of the stocks that we're watching. wal-mart is down after a disappointing earnings. while sisco is up. taking a live look at the big board. the dow up 9. the nasdaq up 11 . and s&p up a half percent. after the electric carmaker says they will raise capital. already promised to buy $100 million worth of the new stock. the company plans to use the money for early repayment of $465

the the macarthur bart station about 5:30 this morning. it's been a mess. claudine wong is in oakland. you talked to a witness. what do you find out? >> reporter: there was a lot of people who saw this go down. but i also just talked to a lieutenant with bart police and have new information. we now know he's 29 years old. he's from oakland and police have had contact with him before. this all started here at the macarthur bart station. before it all ended, it would cause just a traffic mess on the freeways and on the bart tracks. let me show you a picture of the suspect being arrested. this is when it came to an end. keep in mind by the time we got to this moment right here, that man you are looking at had already jumped on three different trains. jum jumped over two different fences. crossed four lanes of traffic twice before they finally got him.

we talked to a witness who took video as he was driving by. >> we had just come through the tunnel and we're driving up towards the 24 and 580 inter change when traffic completely stopped. then they opened up the lanes somewhat as they had apprehended apparently the gentleman who was standing on top of one of the bart trains with a couple police officers standing on top of the train also. >> reporter: again, all of this didn't end until about 7:10 this morning when the arrest finally happened. according to police, they were finally able to start a dialogue with him when he was on that last train. they started talking to him and one of the officers able to grab him by the waist. right now that gentleman is at the hospital being evaluated for any kind of

before 9:00. new this morning, police want your help to find a missing man. 49-year-old john worth was last season three days ago leaving his house on a red bicycle. worth is considered at risk. he suffered a serious head injury several years ago and needs help to perform daily functions. they have not found him. the owner of a party bus company in santa cruz is facing criminal charges in the death of a young woman last year. authorities arrested john reno saint james yesterday on vehicular manslaughter charges. falling out of one of his buses on highway 17 during a fight with another passenger. an indictment accuses him to properly take care of his buses. if he's convicted, faces up to 6 years in prison. >> now we're hearing about the
